Principal Photography

Well, principal photography (or the main bit of filming!) is now at an end! 16 continuous days of being on set at 7am and leaving the set at midnight are finally over! And what a busy fortnight (and a bit) it was.

The first day was the toughest! Not only is everyone finding their feet, but we invited the kids from a local theatre school to come along to be Younglings. "No problem" we thought, "Darren will keep them all in check". Of course we forgot that Darren was stuck inside a small cardboard box for the entire day! It didn't matter though as the kids were very well behaved. Total cups of tea drank today - 52

Day 2 - We worked in the Chancellor's set. Quite comfortable for the actors as they got to sit down all day. Well, everyone except me that is! Confidences behind and in front of the camera were growing now, as routines began to set in. So far so good, and still on schedule! Total cups of tea drank today - 61
Day 3 - >From one set to the next. And with it, a chance to see how Anakin's relationship with Padmé has developed since the last film. The last touches to the set were made in the morning, and filming started after lunch. Another long day, but spirits were high throughout. We even managed to take the set down at the end of the day! Total cups of tea drank today - 38

Day 4 - It was a playday today! Phil Cocking had spent months building an X-Wing cockpit, and today we got to use it!! One by one, everyone sat inside spouting off their lines, whilst everyone else remained in the newly constructed play area, complete with Super Nintendo plus multi-player adapter!! Total cups of tea drank today - 64. Number of games of Super Bomber man 2 played - 196.
Day 5 - Continuing our trend of one set per day, today was the turn of the Millennium Falcon - a grand set built in Kent by Phill Hambrook, and then transported by truck up to Lincoln. Why he didn't just fly it up is a mystery that may never be sold. This was the first uncomfortable day of filming. It was very hot on this set, and quite cramped (as well as people wearing full Jedi outfits including robes). And having to go through the same scene(s) countless times to get all the angles was a strain on everyone. Still, we got to play with some pyrotechnics which is always fun! In true style, we sent people home when filming was done, only to discover we'd missed a bit and would have to call them in on another day! Total cups of tea drank today - 47

Day 6 - He's Back!!!! After 6 days of filming, it was time to welcome back a favourite from The Empire Strikes Backyard. The Emperor himself paid a visit to make sure filming was going on schedule. The first scene on our dual-storey Death Star set was filmed today with a guest appearance from one of the actors of the recently released "Pride and Prejudice" movie. A definite coup and a real honour to have him with us. His mere presence was enough to make us all up our game, and the scene went very well. Total cups of tea drank today - 102
Day 7 - More Death Star filming today. Filming going slowly, but surely. We need to make sure we get all the angles we want to (and some others if we feel like it!) Total cups of tea drank today - 66 (oooh)

Day 8 - The moment we've been waiting for! We had Extras galore for this weekend, and we needed them! Today we started filming on our piece de resistance (literally) as we filmed rebels on the Tantive IV. Paul Topping led the team that created this phenomenal replica of the set used in Episodes III and IV of the Star Wars sexology. Rebels - Clone Guards - Jedi - Blasters - Explosions. What more do you want? Cup of tea would be nice. KEV!!!! It was a very long day today, and tensions were quite high at the end. So we wound down by sprinting down the corridor and flinging ourselves through the blast door onto a conveniently placed crash mat. Ahh, those were the days! Total cups of tea drank today - 92
Day 9 - Same as Day 8. More corridor filming. We also filmed some pick-ups on the Death Star set. Darren directed the Corridor, and I directed the Death Star. Of course, the sets were right next to each other, so only one could film at a time. Of course, I was determined to get my shots filmed before Darren, and took great pride in calling "Action" just as Darren was about to start!! Darren won. Total cups of tea drank today - 81. Number of times Darren called me a name that I can't repeat here - 17

Days 10-13 - All Death Star now (with a bit of Mockumentary filming thrown in when we can). Spending so much time on a dark set can be quite depressing, but things soon cheered up as the jokes came along. A lot of time was spent setting shots up and planning, but it was worth it as we regularly called "Cut" early as the crew were laughing too much! If I hear "Quiet on set" just one more time, I will shoot someone!! Thanks go to Verity who came down from Nottingham just to get sliced down and had to lay on the floor all day! Performance of the week has to go to Nigel Bryce. You'll see why when the film is released! Originally Day 13 was going to be spent rehearsing the fights for Day 14, but we'd fallen a little behind, so used this day to play catch-up. Total cups of tea drank today - 55 (average)
Day 14 - FIGHT DAY!!! We have 3 major fights in this movie, and they were all filmed today. Hopefully we've got a couple of things that haven't been seen before, but things looked impressive. Lots of pyros were used and lots of lemonade was drunk! We used about 5 camera angles for each routine. Glad I'm not editing!! Total cups of tea drank today - 23. 2 litre bottles of lemonade drunk - 21

Day 15 - Any information regarding what was filmed today is strictly classified
Day 16 - Pick-ups and Party!!!!! A few bits left over to be filmed or re-filmed, and then it was party time!! Alcohol flowed, and Silliness rose! Sets were graffitied. Mayhem ensued! A fitting end to a very hard 16 days! A big thank you to all those who helped during this time, and to all those who helped with the set-building before hand!! Total cups of tea drank today - 12. Total alcohol drank - Too much!

Day 17 - Despite our aching heads, it was time to dismantle the sets. Months of work
