all our efforts going in to post production, we didn't have much time to prepare
something like a full 2006 calendar" says Darren Scales, producer and director

the whole thing for us!! Special thanks therefore goes to Dan Owen for producing

03/10/05 Principal Photography
Well,
principal photography (or the main bit of filming!)
is now at an end! 16 continuous days of being on set
at 7am and leaving the set at midnight are finally
over! And what a busy fortnight (and a bit) it was.

TENCLO Cast Begin the Duels! Calling in help from a member of the UK
Kendo under 18 team, the TENCLO team have been practising
their lightsaber routine in preparation for filming
in August.
Fighting
for over 6 hours with Jake, the team managed
to work on several routines and introduce some
new concepts to traditional lightsaber duels
previously seen in fanfilms.
“We
are hoping to have more than ‘simple’ lightsaber
fights. In Star Wars, the Jedi fight for a reason,
not just to have good special effects,” explained
Darren Scales, BYP’s Executive bully and producer
of TENCLO. “We are hoping to have a variety of
routines making maximum use of the enormous main
set we have built. But there are a few surprises
in store also!”

First TENCLO Bluescreen Tests Eager to not repeat the mistakes we
made with bluescreens during TESBY, the BYP Computer FX
team led by Mark Scales spent the day at the TENCLO
soundstage for some good old blue-screen testing.
Results
were mixed but already an improvement on
the last film. "We are currently still
using the same blue-screen package as before,
but with improved lighting" Mark explained "We
are then looking to improve the effect with
a new software package. Whatever happens,
the blue-screen effects are already better
than TESBY" Phew, they couldn't get
much worse!!
The
team will be continuing more blue screen
work over the next few weeks.

BYP enjoys first Tech Test! With new dolly and Jib in tow, BYP set about its first tech test
day - On Luke's birthday!!
With
some members more keen than others (no pressure Sandra!),
the Jib was built and used. "It was like Doom
Raiders all over again" said Darren Scales, producer
for TENCLO. "I remember Dom Gilvary showing the
Cyprus jib for the first time! This piece of kit will
take our set-based filming ability to a new level.
We learned a lot about using the jib out there and
we hope to bring those lessons to TENCLO.
The
Dolly was also tested and produced mixed results. "We
haven't used a track at this stage, because the floor
is already level." Tells Phill Hambrook, Lead
Set Builder and technical guru. "But the carpeted
areas are making the dolly difficult to pull, we shall
see" At least the dolly pullers will enjoy a good
work out!

Set Design Begins for TENCLO! After collecting dimensions of
the soundstage, Ed has been beavering away
planning the arrangements and sizes of the sets required
for our next
production, THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLONES. Current plans
are to build 6 sets,
ranging from cockpits to kitchens! "We are really
going for it this time"
says Darren Scales, producer of TENCLO. "Whilst
we have made other films
and smaller productions since our last Star Wars film
made in 1999, with the
release of the last Star Wars film, this will be our
last one also, so the
environment in which we film must be spectacular." Of
course that is easy
for Darren to say, he hasn't got to design them all.
That enormous
responsibility rests with Ed Hollingsbee, Creative
Consultant for TENCLO.
" Everyone is already aware of the Star Wars Universe,
but with our very
limited budget we have the challenge of having to create
the same
environment out of cardboard and wood."
Designing
began on paper and then onto computer where more
detailed drawings
were prepared. "The computer allows us to
quickly make maximum of use of the
soundstage area. Cramming in up to 6 sets in one
location is not an easy
task". Of course designing the sets is one
thing, building them is something
else! BYP has planned its first big set building
weekend on 28-30 May 2005;
anyone interested in coming along should email
Daz for details
More details on set work to follow.
